IT Suite

Want to improve your computer skills and obtain a certificate that employers will recognise?

Need special software and a tutor that understands your needs?

Then IWSB may have just the course for you!

CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information Technology) proves you can use the main computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets and using e-mail and the Internet. CLAIT is flexible even if you’ve very little experience in computing, you can move onto other levels to increase your proficiency.

The Society is offering a number of 10-week sessions (2 hours per week) during the day. We have a brand new computer suite with specialized interactive software and we use an experienced tutor who understands the needs of visually impaired learners.

Macular Degeneration Support Group

A monthly group who meet on the first Monday of the Month from 10.30 am to 12 noon for coffee, chat and to get support and information about this eye condition which is the biggest cause of blindness in old age. For further information please call the centre on 522205.

RP Support Group

We have now started a new group for people who have Retinitis Pigmentosa and their families. The meetings are held on the second Monday of the Month from 10.30 am to 12 noon when you can have a coffee, chat and get support and information about this hereditary disease. The Wednesday Club

The Club is held in the evenings during the summer and in the afternoons during the winter.

Busy Bees

The Busy Bees Group meets every Thursday at the Centre from 11am-3pm. There is a range of interesting activities throughout the day that clients can choose from that include:

The Art and Craft Group

This small group meets once a month on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Centre between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm and enjoys mixed media artwork including clay, and textured paint. An art practitioner who endeavours to find projects that arise from individual preferences leads the group. If you would like to come along to try any of these activities you would be most welcome. Chiropody

We are now able to offer clients, volunteers and staff of the Society a Chiropody service on a monthly basis at the Centre. The cost is £10 per person per session. If you would like more information please phone the centre on 522205.

The Resource Room

This has a wide range of equipment to help people who have a visual impairment including Talking clocks and watches, sewing and writing aids, lighting and large button telephones. Please do come along to the centre to try out the equipment before you order.

We also have on display some close circuit televisions, which magnify reading matter onto the screen. People visiting the centre can try the different models to find one that suits their needs.
